In November 2010, NDM-1-producing Klebsiella pneumoniae (NDMKP) was identified from four patients stayed for 21 to 205 days in a tertiary care hospital with no travelling history abroad, which was first time in Korea. All were ST340 and had nearly identical XbaI-PFGE patterns. The blaNDM-1-carrying plasmids were Inc/rep N group with a variable size of 50-200 kb. These findings suggest that NDMKP had already been introduced into Korea before this clustering found.
